Mastering An Abundance Mindset For Success In Real Estate

Education, network, and industry knowledge all contribute to success, but an abundance mindset is the #1 personal tool you should be leveraging most to gain a competitive advantage.

A simple mindset shift can lift a person from rags to riches. It can rapidly accelerate the growth of your brokerage or help to double your sales. Changing your mindset won’t cost you thousands of dollars but it will take some effort and willpower. If you can successfully transition from a scarcity mindset to a mindset of abundance, your whole world can change overnight.

What Is An Abundance Mindset?

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” Marcus Aurelius

What do you focus on first thing in the morning? Is it the fact that you’re already running ten minutes behind, or the fact that you get the chance to live another amazing day on this earth?

An abundance mindset is really a shift in your perception and focus. At its essence, this mindset is about resources. Someone with an abundance mindset believes that there is more than enough resources available to them and everyone else. There is enough time, money, opportunity, and knowledge. There is more than enough of everything.

By simply changing the thoughts in your head, it’s possible to experience unlimited amounts of success. We know, it sounds a little silly at first but the top performers in almost every field can testify to the power of an abundance mindset.

Why You Need An  Abundance Mindset

“The key to abundance is meeting limited circumstances with unlimited thoughts.”  – Marianne Williamson

When it comes to real estate, having an abundant mindset is important, not only for success but also for happiness.

If you talk to the average real estate agent about their local market, they will quickly bring up some figures that outline the population, the number of home buyers, and the number of agents. They know how many home sales there are to go around. These are the real estate professionals that are constantly chasing leads. If they don’t get to a buyer or seller first, another agent will come in and swoop them up, stealing away the commission.

This is not a healthy, winning mentality. Every day becomes a competition. A competition that you can never truly win. If you want to enjoy both success and happiness, you need to realize that there are more than enough leads out there for everyone. Say it again with us: there are more than enough leads to go around for every single real estate professional out there!

If you stay true to your personality and work hard, your community will take notice- it’s really as simple as that. You don’t have to worry about losing out on opportunities because the opportunities will come to you. Let your marketing systems, network and referrals find the prospects. This will free up mental space in your mind and empower you to focus on all the opportunities you have in front of you.

Overcoming Past Obstacles And Failures

There is a catch to this whole abundance mindset business.

Our brains are wired in a way that makes it very difficult to stay in an abundance mindset. Only a few hundred years ago, the human brain’s top priority was survival, not happiness. If you let your past memories and emotions call the shots, you will quickly slip back into scarcity.

People with a scarcity mindset tend to see everything in terms of win-lose. There is only so much and if someone has it, that means there will be less for me. The more principle-centered we become, the more we develop an abundance mentality, the more we are genuinely happy for the successes, well-being, acheivement, recognition, and good fortune of other people. We believe their success adds to…rather than detracts from…our lives.”

Stephen R. Covey

You’re not alone if you find yourself focusing on some of the struggles you have endured in the past. Luckily, there are many tips and tricks the most successful people in the world use to cultivate abundance. The best part? These little suggestions or habits are easy to implement.

With that in mind, here are my 5 pillars of an abundance mindset to build your real estate career to new heights!

Grant’s 5 Pillars For Building An Abundance Mindset

#1) Scarcity Is My Opportunity

Several times over the course of building my business, I found myself short on resources. Sometimes it was a lack of cash flow, other times it was a lack of labor. Regardless, my mindset training taught me to recognize scarcity in my life as an opportunity to assess my weaknesses and improve.

So, instead of complaining about low inventory in your farm, focus on the factors you can control. Is low neighborhood turnover rate a historical trend or a chronic problem in your farm? Were there indications that could have better prepared you?

Speak to industry professionals, increase your market knowledge, and adapt winning strategies from top performers. There is always something you can do to improve your knowledge, ability, or mindset.

#2) I Will Not Wait, I Will Anticipate

“Expect your every need to be met. Expect the answer to every problem, expect abundance on every level.”

Eileen Caddy

There’s a very subtle difference between waiting and anticipating. When you wait for something, you’re passive and not very engaged. Anticipation, on the other hand, produces a sense of excitement and expectation.

One who anticipates good things prepares for good things. Wake up each day expecting success rather than dreading failure. Anticipate the objections a prospect might have, and prepare your response ahead of time. Study market reports and your audience to identify trends so you can anticipate your client’s needs before they are even aware of them.

#3) I Will Do It Now!

Procrastination is the ENEMY! When we feel defeated, it’s easy to put off the tasks we dislike or to delay facing the challenges we’d rather avoid. You hate cold calling, so you leave it as the last task of the day. By this time, your energy is depleted and your mindset is narrow. How can you succeed at cold calling when you constantly sabotage your own success?

Resolve to prioritize the tasks you dislike most instead of looking for excuses to avoid or delay them. One successful cold call could be worth thousands of dollars in commission. So even if you have to make 100 phone calls to find that 1 opportunity, isn’t it worth it?

There is an opportunity waiting for you today, right now! Someone in your farm is actually waiting for you to call them!

So, what are you waiting for? Go do it – NOW!  Then, do it again tomorrow, and the next day after that.

#4) Mind The Company You Keep

Long before I started my real estate venture, I was a personal trainer. Helping people set personal goals and reach them is something I have always been good at. Over time, I noticed that my most successful weight loss clients changed their habits as well as the company that once held them back.

Unhealthy habits and lifestyles attract people of the same mindset. Failure attracts failure. Start complaining about the weather, and see who joins the conversation.  I guarantee you the winners in your office won’t be part of the conversation because they are too busy focusing on all the great things they are going to do to help their clients!

Don’t participate in negative conversations. Turn off the news and stop filling your mind with discouraging content. Instead, seek out the company of the people who uplift and motivate you. Surround yourself with such individuals, and you’ll find their healthy attitude is infectious – in a good way!

#5) No One Else Can Do It Like You Can!

It sounds cocky, but the reality is there is only one you in the universe, and there will only ever be one you. You are incredibly unique and that is your advantage!

Instead of wishing you were Danielle Garofalo with tons of Instagram followers, embrace your own personality to connect with your clients. Personalize your brand by tapping into your unique experiences. Sometimes, sharing your defeats can be more inspiring than boasting about your wins.

Use your unique story to identify with a niche market segment, for example. Share your story in your bio and it will show your audience that you are in fact one of them. If you’re a senior who recently started real estate, for example, perhaps you can specialize in helping seniors downsize.

Perhaps you’re recovering from surgery and your prospecting has been slow. Blog about your recovery experience, share it on Facebook, and encourage others who have experienced similar setbacks. Your personal story may resonate with residents in your farm who will thank you for your positive inspiration. These, in turn, could become followers who send you referrals later.
