Why You Need A Morning Routine

Human beings are creatures of habit, and the human body has an amazing capacity for building habits and routines.

The right habits and routines, in fact, drive successful entrepreneurs to outperform the competition and distinguish them from their peers. With the right morning routine in place you’ll:

So which habits should you include as part of your daily ritual? Here are my 5 key suggestions for a killer morning routine.

The 5 Morning Routine Habits To Crush Your Day

#1 Wake up earlier

early morning routines

Beat the sun up! That’s the advice of real estate mogul Grant Cordone, and it simply means get up before the sun does!

Now if you’re a creative type who doesn’t keep conventional business hours, waking up earlier might not be as effective for you. While many people prefer to start their days earlier rather than later, it’s not for everyone.

But if you are in real estate, serving clients during business hours and after, I highly recommend you think about starting your days earlier with a morning routine.

Establishing an earlier routine can be tough, especially if you consider yourself a night owl. Try putting your alarm clock in another room so you’re forced to get up and turn it off. And don’t touch that snooze button!

Even if you only set your alarm clock 15mn earlier, it’s a start.

Tip: If you’re not crashing at the end of the day, you’re not tired enough! Download your thoughts at the end of your day. It can help you get to sleep. Read before bed, listen to a podcast, find something that helps you decompress before you go to sleep.

#2 Establish a mental exercises routine

Entrepreneur Chris Plough spends 5mn each morning writing in his meditation journal.  Meditation, goal setting, and breathing exercises are all activities that can help you energize your mind.

Find a meditation exercise that suits your personality. Repeat a mantra, for example, or read a page from your favorite self-help author. Dedicate 5 – 10mn of your morning routine to a mindful meditation that reaffirms a positive state of mind.

#3 Hydrate and don’t forget to breathe

Drink 1 – 2 liters of water when you wake up. Replenish your body with some H20, and you’ll feel more alert all day long.

Box Breathing is a calming technique used by Navy Seals to maximize their breathing and center their thoughts. It’s simple to learn and can be practiced just about anywhere without any equipment.

#4  Physical Exercise

Whether it’s cardio, weights, tennis, or yoga, engage in some form of exercise that increases your heart rate. Make sure that you sweat, and your muscles are being used.

How long does your exercise routine have to be? Whatever length of time challenges you physically and gets you working up a sweat!

Suggested Exercises: rebounding, vibration plates, push-ups, sit-ups, and jogging are all great morning routine activities.

  • Kevin Kruse does a daily 20-minute HIIT session on the treadmill.
  • Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square, jogs every morning.
  • Barbara Corcoran works out for 1hr and jogs to work on alternate mornings.
  • Howard Schulz, CEO of Starbucks, bikes first thing.
  • Entrepreneur Gary Vee works out with his personal trainer.
  • Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary rides his elliptical or exercise bike.
  • Starwood Hotels CEO Frits Van Paaschen runs 10 miles each morning!

Success Tip: Try Butter Coffee. It has some amazing health benefits!

#5 Spiritual Exercise

When I talk about spirituality, I’m referring to the emotions and attitudes that drive your actions. If you’re happy and well-fed, it’s a lot easier to stay positive in the face of adversity.

All too often agents tend to overlook the impact of healthy eating on their spiritual well-being. I did that myself, but I began to notice that eventually, I ran out of steam.  You can get a lot done by neglecting your health, but only for a while. A continuous diet of fast food, coffee, and cigarettes will eventually erode your health and reduce your energy levels.

Instead of chugging through 3 cups of coffee by 11 am, start your day with a healthy fruit smoothie or protein shake. You’ll find, over time, that you need/crave less coffee and have more energy to attack your day.

More importantly, you’ll have a more stable mindset, rather than a roller-coaster of emotional highs and lows.
